We are looking for Bank Carers to work in Residential Children’s Homes near Colchester. We currently have two homes and are hoping that a third will open soon. The children are 10 to 18 and have emotional, social and behavioural difficulties.
We need Bank Carers who can work shifts that are usually 8:00 – 17:00 or 17:00 – 22:30. Sometimes a full day may be needed. We will work around your other needs, and so plan our rota 5 or 6 weeks ahead so you can commit to the number of shifts you can work on a planned basis. Bank Carers do need to be able to sleep in occasionally – the Sleep-In allowance is £56.10 per night. Ideally we are looking for Bank Carers who may be able to take on short notice shifts, due to sickness or the needs of the home – anyone able to offer this goes to the front of the queue.
Our care is attachment-based and we work using empathy, nurture and understanding of the needs of the children. You will therefore need to be able to control your own emotions in response to challenging situations, and have bags of empathy for the children.
We will teach you about behaviour management and trauma informed care.
We are looking for people who will allow themselves to enjoy working with these challenging children, and when time allows to do the household chores – cooking, cleaning, tidying, washing etc to keep the home in order. Candidates also need to be able to produce the required documentation and logs throughout the day – so you do need to be able to write a few paragraphs as a diary of events.
Bank Carers also get priority when recruiting new Full-Timers. In fact, some of our managers started as part-time and earned their way to the top. Being a Bank Carer is a great entry point.
If you are able to work to our ethos, show good emotional control and demonstrate empathy for our young people – there is no reason why you wouldn’t be considered for this position. Come join us!
